Special concert on the sea - POPULAR ORCHESTRA THE NIGHT OF THE TARANTA

On the night of the stars, the starry sky meets the sea and the vibrant notes of the Popular Orchestra La Notte della Taranta, with a special concert for the stage of the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta" a in the iconic bay of S. ANDREA - Marina di MELENDUGNO. It is the third, concluding one of the events related to the theme of the humanity of water, which was one of the festival's novelties this year. After the reservoir of the Apulian aqueduct in Corigliano d'Otranto where Pizzica in scena sanctioned the start of the musical web and the acoustic concert in the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, the beauty of nature and water return as protagonists of the August nights and the most magical one, the night of San Lorenzo in which the immensity of the blue will be observed by listening to the voices and rhythms of the popular music of the Orchestra that on stage will see: Alessandra Caiulo, Enza Pagliara, Consuelo Alfieri, three great interpreters of popular song and the musicians Attilio Turrisi - chitarra battente, Alessandro Monteduro - percussion, Gianluca Longo - mandola, Roberto Gemma - accordion, Peppo Grassi - mandolin, Leonardo Cordella - accordion, Antonio Marra - drums, Roberto Chiga, Alessandro Chiga, , Mario Esposito - bass, Giuseppe Astore - violin, Nico Berardi - woodwinds.

Special concert on the sea closes the 2023 triad of the traveling festival dedicated to water the highway of humanity. Water is the most important link that has crossed the past and flows into the future. A highway with a fluens shape in front of which we are struck by unexpected emotions that we call "astonishment."  As Amazement is the sea, movement and depth, breath, sounds and colors toward which we seek caresses, understanding, embraces. "Lu ruciu de lu mare" we sing even when the sea is far away bringing in its wave motion. Amazement is the public water that flows in every place, "l'acqua de la funtana" we sing to remember the beauty of the villages and the past when it flowed from the village fountain and formed communities at the footprint. Amazement is the invisible water that projects us into the future, when it immense crosses all underground Apulia and plunges into the Mediterranean Sea. Astonishment that the artists of the Orchestra and the dancers of the corps de ballet will be ready to give the spectators.  At 8 p.m., in fact, it will begin with the Pizzica Workshop, which has an extraordinary ability to aggregate and attract people who want to get closer to the traditional culture of Salento and its traditional dance.

For the corps de ballet, it will be the dancers Stefano Campagna, Fabrizio Nigro, Andrea Caracuta, Laura Boccadamo, Serena Pellegrino, Lucia Scarabino, Mihaela Coluccia, and Cristina Frassanito who will give these dancing moments suspended between land and sea.

Before the long-awaited concert of the Popular Orchestra on stage: I Mandatari

Ambassadors of traditional music from Taranto, the brainchild of Salvatore Cavallo Galeanda, they trace the roots of their music to careful research into the traditions, customs and traditions of their area. The music has a specific goal: to recover and make usable the cultural, musical and magical-religious heritage of the Taranto area. From the interweaving of the stories of the elders and the work of ethnographer Alfredo Majorino, the Mandatari build the basket into which they pour the past and bring it into the present. A formation that brings into its repertoire the ritual aspect with tarantismo; playful with pizzica-pizzica, tarantella, quadriglia, work songs, stornelli, serenate and polyvocal songs; religious-devotional with songs of passion, ancient Lenten and Easter songs typical of the province of Taranto and of the Arbëreshë culture of ancient Albania Tarantina, religious and pilgrimage songs, litanies, propitiatory songs, biographies and sung religious stories and prayers; and intercultural, with an Arbëreshë repertoire (an Albanian-speaking community still strongly present in the municipality of San Marzano di San Giuseppe and in some municipalities of Calabria and Basilicata).

Special concert on the sea by the POPULAR ORCHESTRA LA NOTTE DELLA TARANTA

La Notte della Taranta, a cultural project to enhance the music and dance of Salento, aims in 2023 to highlight the value of water, of the humanity of water. The water that defines the beauty of places, the water that weaves the thoughts of the community, the water that sculpts time. The water to be cherished and protected.

The humanity of water is expressed in the Canticle of the Creatures by St. Francis: "humile et pretiosa et casta." In this humble and precious water of Apulia we mirror ourselves, matter and symbol of our region. A place of poetry and contemplation, water has its own musical rhythm, preceded by mysterious silence. From springs to wells, from fountains to that tap that connects us with the larger community of our borough through the pipelines of Acquedotto Pugliese, the amazing network of water conservation and distribution, the fruit of the labor and ingenuity of countless generations.
