SCAZZACATARANTE in VAMPA

Third stop of the Itinerant Festival La Notte della Taranta on August 5 in Sogliano Cavour, in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino with Makarìa and Scazzacatarante.

At 9:15 p.m., opening the evening in Sogliano will be Makarìa with Viaggio nella Tradizione. The group was founded in May 2022, with the intention of promoting traditional music from Salento. The lineup consists of Claudio Vincenti, who plays the frame drum and sings; Giulio Colazzo, who plays the accordion and sings; Alex Santoro, also on frame drum; and Andrea Foggetti, who plays guitar and mandola. Their concert will offer a musical journey through the most popular songs of the Salento tradition, starting from the sounds of the lower Salento to those of the upper Salento. This will be enriched by dance performances by Erika Giordano and Mina Vita, who will accompany the audience on this cultural and musical journey.

Next, the group The Scazzacatarante musical group will perform on stage. Born in 1998 in Galatina, when a group of friends, united by a passion for pizzica pizzica, decided to carry on the Salento folk tradition. With a pinch of innovation, a strong charisma and a team spirit, they perform in the most important squares of Salento and beyond, trying to make the pressing rhythm of the pizzica-taranta known in Italy and around the world.Victor Hugo said that "the heart lives as long as it has something to love, just as fire lives as long as it has something to burn." But how long can a fire burn? That of Scazzacatarante has been burning for a good 25 years, melting and animating this well-known Salento pizzica group and pouring its warmth and energy into the audience, and there could not have been a more apt title for the band's new song, released last April: "VAMPA." It is the song of a burning and living feeling. It expresses the love of a man for a woman, but it is also a metaphor for the passion that holds the group firmly together. On the rhythms of traditional pizzica, with an orchestral inspiration thanks to the presence of winds and strings in the recording, Scazzacatarante give voice to that torment of love that does not find the courage to manifest itself and lingers on the doorstep of the beloved. "De nanti casa tua iu passu e spassu, mo cu te visciu pe nu paru d'ore": this is precisely the sweet restlessness of those who love and are silent, the cross and delight of every unexpressed love. Anyone who has felt at least once that flame in his or her chest cannot help but recognize himself or herself in the feeling that travels through the verses of "Vampa," cannot help but see himself or herself in those sighs, in the warmth of those tears of love, in the hope of one day seeing the deep ardor of a soul that does not give itself peace corresponded. Group members:Tony Taranta (Drum and Voice); Davide Donno (Drums and Voice), Luca Congedo (Drums), Matteo Gaballo (Violin), Lorenzo Codazzo (Bass), Pantaleo De Pascalis (Accordion), Roberto Margari (Clarinet and Sax), Giorgio Giaracuni (Trumpet).

From August 3 to 22, the festival will travel through 19 towns in Salento, offering 50 appointments to discover the richness and beauty of Salento's historic centers, following the overwhelming rhythm of the pizzica. The journey will feature two concerts at each stop, with the participation of 34 guest groups and three special concerts by the Popular Orchestra Notte della Taranta. In addition to music, there will be room for dance with the show "Pizzica in Scena" and nine pizzica workshops involving the public.
